After receiving criticism from the right wing earlier this year for his opinion about Christianity at the Nation Prayer Breakfast, President Obama delivered a speech during an Easter prayer breakfast expressing his concerns on “less than loving” Christians, and poking fun at his so-called critics:
On Easter I do reflect on the fact that as a Christian I am supposed to love. I have to say that sometimes when I listen to less-than-loving expressions by Christians I get concerned.
The President sarcastically paused, then said “that’s a topic for another day,” causing the audience to burst out in laughter. “I was about to veer off; I am pulling it back,” he said, trying to contain his humor. Obama then reflected on what it means to be a Christian in his speech:
Where there is injustice, we defend the oppressed. Where there is disagreement, we treat each other with compassion and respect.
