What could POSSIBLY go wrong when you invite a former Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan to be a guest on your television show?
With the recent scandal surrounding House Majority Whip, Steve Scalise’s, participation in a white supremacist rally, David Duke once again finds himself with a voice with which to taint the national dialogue. The former failed political candidate and Grand Wizard of the Louisiana KKK, in a fairly transparent attempt to once again make himself relevant, recently told Fusion that if the Republican party failed to support Scalise, he would start naming names of other politicians with white nationalist ties:
If Scalise is going to be crucified — if Republicans want to throw Steve Scalise to the woods, then a lot of them better be looking over their shoulders.
So where does a white nationalist/former KKK Grand Wizard go when he’s trying to spew hate-filled dialogue into the national consciousness?
Well, Fox “News” of course!
Duke used his Monday night booking on “The O’Reilly Factor” to attempt and convince viewers that he was never a white supremacist. According to Duke, his European-American Unity and Rights Organization (EURO) is “a chartered human rights organization” tasked with fighting what he terms racial discrimination perpetrated against whites by Affirmative Action. Duke also seemed to feign some selective amnesia, granting Scalise cover by claiming that he could not recall if Scalise ever addressed his organization.
Now, in all fairness to Bill-O, he did press Duke in the interview — calling into question Duke’s deceptive assertion that he was never a white supremacist. In what can only be qualified as “so far-fetched that it approaches laughable,” Duke attempted to draw parallels between himself and Nelson Mandela — claiming that even though Mandela had former ties to the Communist Party, he’s never referenced as “former Communist Nelson Mandela.”
Poor David Duke. Wherever he goes, he’s always known as a former Klan leader.
But the awkward comedy of this strange encounter did not end there. O’Reilly cuts Duke off and ends the segment just as the former Klan leader seemed poised for a harangue regarding the financial sector and a Jewish conspiracy to manipulate the American military. As the screen cuts away, Duke is seen holding a sign featuring an image of President Obama, along with the captioned text: “President Obama Communist Terrorist Murderer.”
