A 26-year-old woman, who was seven-months pregnant, was shopping for baby clothes on Craigslist. She arrived alone at home of 34-year-old Dynel Catrece Lane, on the 1600 block of Green Place in Longmont, Colorado. It was about 2 p.m., yesterday, when Lane attacked the pregnant woman, stabbing her in the stomach and ulitimately removing the unborn child.
Apparently the two women did not know each other prior to this incident. It’s been determined that Lane held a nurse’s aide license in Colorado from 2010 through 2012. It appears that she let it lapse.
The woman was found by police at 2:41 p.m. and rushed to the hospital. She suffered several injuries but survived.
Lane arrived at the same hospital later with her husband and the deceased baby, claiming a miscarriage. Lane had registered in an online baby registry stating that she was due to deliver November 14, 2014. Her husband said that he believed that she miscarried.
Lane has two children that live with her at the home where the attack occurred, but it is not yet known if they witnessed it.
Lane is being charged with attempted first degree murder, first degree assault and child abuse knowingly and recklessly resulting in death. Why she is not being charged with murder of the infant is unknown at this time.
