A few days ago, Oregon militia leader, Ammon Bundy, reassured us that he and his buddies hijacking a federal building in Oregon wasn’t a spur of the moment thing, and something that they’d been planning for a while.
Now, that’s not looking like it’s the case. In a video that has since been made private or taken down, an Oregon militia member announced that one of his fellow militia members walked off the nature preserve, holed up in a hotel, and drank away all of their donation money.
Farewell to Childhood Delusions
Joe Oshaugnessy — known as “Capt. O” to his followers — was an Arizona militiaman who’d been actively recruiting through social media to find volunteers to join him and his fellow terrorists on their “excursion” in the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.
By all accounts, he was dedicated to the cause. There was just one problem: he was even more dedicated to booze.
His friends recently announced on social media, tearfully, with broken hearts, that “Capt. O” left the refuge on Wednesday and migrated to a nearby motel — where he burned the donation money they’d made via social media on an alcohol binge.
The militants have been allowed to leave the nature preserve freely, and Capt. O seems to have taken advantage of that following some sort of argument with the participants over the nature of keeping women and children as human shields.
After he left, Jon Ritzheimer — an Arizona militiaman best known for anti-Muslim rallies and fundraisers on his “Rogue Infidel” site — tracked down Capt. O at the motel and found the man boozed up, according to group spokeswoman Maureen Peltier, a disabled National Guard woman.
Peltier confirmed Oshaugnessy kept the money he’d raised and blew, at least, some of it on booze.
Thus, it was with tears another militant, Cai Irvin, announced Oshaugnessy’s departure:
Ritzheimer did call me — he’s f*cking pissed, he’s mad, he’s upset. He told me to tell all of you that Joe Oshaugnessy is a deserter and a coward . . . It’s like finding out there is no such thing as Santa. Come on, man.
Capt. O isn’t the only one who left and failed to return: at least one other, Brian “Booda” Cavalier, didn’t show back up after newspapers revealed his lie about serving in the U.S. Marines.
