Florida Gun-Shooting Range Gets Alcohol Permit

Have you ever wanted to take a shot and down a shot at the same time? Well, wait no more, drunken gun nuts! Just wander over to Daytona Beach, Florida, where the city commission just let a new indoor shooting range get a license to serve alcoholic beverages!

And have you ever thought of a better concept? Gin & tonic … with a Smith & Wesson! Ouzo with your Uzi!

And even better, it’ll be an “upscale restaurant,” developers Ron Perkinson and Edward Staudt told The Daytona Beach News-Journal. (So, a Remy Martin XO with your Remington?) Uh-huh – as if the scent of gunpowder and the sounds of semis can complement the ambiance a candle-lit dining room.

This concept makes perfect business sense, too. A 2011 study published by the British Medical Journal found that gun owners are twice as likely to binge-drink, twice as likely to consume at least 60 alcoholic beverages every month, and are two and half times more likely to drink and drive. So mixing up the shooting and the drinking under the same roof isn’t just twice the bangs for patrons; it’s twice the bucks for the establishment, too! (And so what if over one-third of all shooting deaths in the United States involve alcohol?)

But if drinking and driving don’t mix, should drinking and shooting? Well, put a sock in it, all you flower-power lib’ruls, because the developers swear they’ll prepare their wait staff. Perkinson told the News-Journal:

If (customers are) renting a handgun, or if they were bringing their own, (employees) would do the paperwork, scan their ID. (Workers) will be trained to visually look at the person, look at their eyes (and) look at their pupils, just like an officer would.

So just forget the fact that police officers are required to have continuous training pertinent to guns and violence and safety and law. Now we can just let liquor-slingers make the call about gun-slingers! They don’t serve alcohol to folks who had too many drinks, now do they? Yeah! And bartender school teaches all about gun safety, too, now don’t it?

Make your reservations now!
