Renowned evolutionary biologist and world famous Atheist Richard Dawkins has made a career of trying to educate ignorant people about science. He was once a university professor in his native Britain, and he has written several books — including his breakout best seller The God Delusion — which has likely created more Atheists than religious nuts want to admit.
Dawkins is also responsible for one of the best evolutionary books in the modern world, The Greatest Show on Earth. So, I can imagine that it was quite painful for such a man to debate creationist and bona-fide Ends Timeser, Ben Carson. It was likely even more painful for Dawkins to realize that this same guy is running for President of the United States, and doing quite well in the primary, too.
Well, when Dawkins appeared on The Daily Show host, Trevor Noah, poked Dawkins with that painful memory — and Dawkins immediately pounced on the opportunity to mock Carson’s idiocy. He even went so far as to say that while Carson was “nice,” he was also “ignorant.” Dawkins is right, of course.
Carson is ignorant. He actually believes that Darwin’s Theory of Evolution is a tool of Satan.
In the spirit of being the genuinely nice guy that he is, though, Dawkins didn’t go for the jugular when it came to speaking about Carson on the air during his appearance on Comedy Central. The Daily Show would have been the perfect venue to knock an insane theocrat like Carson down, but Dawkins didn’t do that; he simply said, referencing his debate with Carson:
I would have liked to have educated him. I would have liked to have given him a little tutorial, but there wasn’t enough time.
I don’t think there’s enough time in the world, Dr. Dawkins, to teach the likes of Ben Carson anything.
