In a video obtained by WDIV, Michigan police officers appeared to be fist-bumping, celebrating, and mocking a man they had reportedly beaten during a traffic stop. The suspect, Floyd Dent, suffered from broken ribs and a head injury after repetitively being kicked and tazed over 16 times.
Although there is no audio, the video shows one officer completely sprawled out on a bench reenacting the beating. Dent’s attorney, Greg Rohl told WDIV that the officers were allegedly wiping off Dent’s blood from their hands and uniforms and imitating the suspect in the beating, while his client was just a few feet away seeking medical attention.
After the footage emerged, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy dropped all charges that had been brought against Dent and instead issued charges against officer William Mendez, who inflicted most of the beating during the incident. Thankfully, Mendez has been fired, but the rest of the police officers at the beating and police station are reportedly being investigated.
This incident goes beyond police brutality; it is plain disgusting and out-of-control.
