This 9 Second Video Of A White Teacher Beating A Black Student Is Now Criminal Evidence (VIDEO)

A teacher in Beaumont, Texas is in quite a bit of hot water after she decided to discipline a student by slapping him repeatedly and making fun of how he talks. 63-year-old Mary Hastings, a geometry teacher at Ozen High School in Beaumont, Texas was arrested and charged with assault after a student posted a 9-second cell phone video of the incident online. Hastings was charged with assault and released on $2500 bail:

The rage displayed by Hastings in the video is quite disturbing. She slaps the boy five times, pushes papers from his desk and calls him an “idiot ass.” When the boy asks why she did what she did, she mocked his vernacular in her continuing fit of rage. Hastings is white and the student she assaulted is black.

The school district has removed Hastings from the class and placed her on administrative leave. They released the following prepared statement:

The Beaumont Independent School District can confirm that an Ozen High School teacher was arrested today for physically assaulting a student.

The conduct was substantiated by video footage viewed by BISD police and administration. The district is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our students.

BISD does not condone employees abusing any child and will not tolerate such conduct. The teacher was immediately removed from the classroom and placed on administrative leave pending action on her contract.
In other words, she is about to be fired for her own stupidity. It’s amazing that a woman who can display this level of intolerance for the behavior of high-school kids could possibly have a job in any public school system. The student takes the slapping fairly well, and can even be seen smiling to the classmate with the cell phone, but that’s hardly an excuse for the teacher’s behavior. Children are going to challenge authority. It’s what they do. By slapping and mocking this boy Mary Hastings has proven that she no longer has what it takes to be a teacher. Mocking him the way she did came off as a bit racist as well, which will in no way help her get another job in Beaumont, where she is the minority.
