One of the three gunmen killed by the police on Friday after carrying out France’s worst terrorist attacks in more than half a century, spoke from the grave on Sunday in a home-made video, declaring allegiance to the Islamic State militant group, describing his role in what he called a coordinated offensive to defend Islam, and encouraging French Muslims to take up the fight.
The video of Amedy Coulibaly, 32, surfaced as French media, citing police sources, said investigators had found an apartment used by Coulibaly in preparation for the attacks stocked with automatic weapons, explosive detonators, cash and flags of the Islamic State.
The video and the discovery of the Islamic State flags at the apartment provided further evidence that the attacks on a newspaper, a police officer and a kosher supermarket were inspired by organized foreign-based terrorist groups.
In the seven-minute video, Amedy Coulibaly is described as a “soldier of the caliphate” and declares allegiance to the Isis leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
Coulibaly shot and killed a Paris policewoman on Thursday and four hostages at a kosher supermarket on Friday. French police said that he had also shot and injured a jogger on Wednesday in a Paris suburb at the onset of the attacks that have shocked the world. The jogger was seriously wounded by a bullet from the same gun that Coulibaly carried when he attacked the kosher supermarket two days later.
In the video, Coulibaly said he had coordinated his attacks with Chérif and Saïd Kouachi, the brothers who stormed the offices of Charlie Hebdo in Paris on Wednesday, killing 12 people.
