Idiot Pastor Defends Bigoted Message: ‘I’m Not Politically Correct, But I Am Biblically Correct’ (VIDEO)

Ignorance and stupidity often go hand in hand, and an Oregon baptist pastor demonstrated that when he put up a message on his church’s marquee attacking Muslims.

I mean, xenophobia is in style, I guess. But that’s nothing compared to how he defended said message.

Our God is bigger

Pastor Michael Harrington found himself in hot water after a message appeared on his church’s marquee reading on one side “Wake up Christians, Allah is not our God, Muhammad not greater than Jesus,” and on the other side, “Only the Bible is God’s word, ‘holy book,’ Koran is just another book.”

This is stupid on several levels. First off, it’s as dumb as saying “Gott is not our God” or “Deus is not our God.” Second, Muslims would agree: Isa is a very important prophet just like Muhammad is. Third, if God wrote the Bible, he wrote the Koran, too. It’s the same deity — El.

As it turns out, bigotry isn’t popular, and even the mayor of the city, Hood River, has stepped up to criticize it. While talking with KATU, Mayor Paul Blackburn said that he was “annoyed” by the sign:

I was really annoyed and sad. I am annoyed that in this political season there’s a solid case of ugly going on. I think it norms up this kind of behavior like ‘oh it’s okay to be a bigot now.’

Another resident, Eric Cohn, was also upset with the sign, and told KATU, “I literally had to stop and back up and make sure I saw what I saw, and I was profoundly offended and upset by it.”

Harrington defended himself, however:

I’m not politically correct. I’ve never been politically correct, but I think I’m biblically correct, and that’s what matters to me.”

He also insisted he doesn’t hate Muslims or Islam, he’s just trying to educate people on a topic he knows nothing about.

“It isn’t against any particular denomination. It’s just the fact that I have taught and will continue to teach that I have one God, one way of salvation and one Bible that’s holy,” Harrington said.

Unsurprisingly, Harrington isn’t moved by the criticism and won’t put up a new sign until June, when he was planning on putting up a new one anyway.

Until then, everyone in the area, make sure to drive past and laugh at this man’s willful ignorance and stupidity.
