In what’s sure to excite many people around the world, news has just broken that the Islamic State (ISIS) executioner known as “Jihadi John” was among the wounded in the American-led airstrike near the Syrian border on Nov. 8. The British terrorist became widely known after videos were posted showing him beheading American and British hostages.
Airstrike On ISIS Leadership
The airstrike that is believed to have wounded Jihadi John occurred at an underground bunker in Iraq where ISIS militants and Syrian tribal elders had met to pledge allegiance to the leader of the terrorist organization, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Unbeknownst to them, America had inbound jets targeting the meeting.
By the time all was said and done, there were 10 dead militants and about 40 others who sustained injuries. Many believed at the time, or at least really hoped, that al-Baghdadi had been killed in the attack. A later-released audio tape, though, seems to imply that the ISIS leader made it out with at least his life. As of now, it seems Jihadi John may have been just as lucky.
ISIS Leaders Evacuated
After the attack on the underground bunker, some wounded in the attack, including al-Baghdadi and Jihadi John, were transported to Iraq’s Al Qaim General Hospital. ISIS overtook the loudspeaker at a local mosque and requested that locals come donate blood at the medical facility.
Reports that Jihadi John was amongst the injured came directly from a nurse involved in treating the wounded. This nurse referred to one of her patients as “the one who slaughtered the journalists.'” Another source who was close to the situation also confirmed that the ISIS executioner had been present at the meeting during the attack.
After being treated at the nearby hospital, the two ISIS figures, along with several other injured, were transported to Syria in the hopes of keeping them in underground medical facilities. They hope that this will prevent further injuries or deaths in the case of another airstrike.
Only A Matter Of Time
The death of Osama bin Laden gave hope to Americans that all terrorists could be brought to justice. In the case of Jihadi John, it’s starting to appear as if this may be the fateful conclusion as well. Soon after British authorities claimed to be getting close to the identity of Jihadi John, the FBI reported that they had discovered the man’s real name. British papers said that the main suspect was London area rapper Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary.
While the Bureau didn’t release who they thought the terrorist was, it’s likely that having this name will make the search that much easier. Add this to the fact that the U.S. Senate has approved a $10 million bounty for anyone who provides information that leads to the capture of the two beheaded American journalists’ killers, and it’s pretty much a done deal. Thanks to their need for Internet fame, ISIS ensured that we knew the killer was Jihadi John.
Jihadi John might have gotten away this time, or he could have since died from his injuries in an underground bunker. Even if he fully recovers, though, he now gets to live with the fear of knowing that at any time America might just know where he is.
Just ask Pakistan if America has a problem busting into a country unannounced to get our man.
