Trump Goes After Khizr Khan; Puts His ‘Traveling Privileges’ ‘Under Review’

We all remember the emotional and moving speech Khizr Khan, the Muslim-American patriot who gave one of his sons in defense of this nation, delivered at the Democratic National Convention last summer. In the speech, Khan tore into Trump’s anti-Muslim bigotry, and afterwards, Trump attacked the Gold Star father in a disgusting public feud that lasted for more than a week.

Well, it seems that now that he is in power, Trump is abusing the authority of the presidency to go after Mr. Khan. There was supposed to be an event in Toronto where Mr. Khan would give a speech on what is happening in America, and “on what we can do about the appalling turn of events in Washington — so that we don’t all end up sacrificing everything.”

All of that has changed, though, because Mr. Khan reportedly received notice on Sunday evening that the United States government is placed Mr. Khan’s “privileges” to travel out of the country “under review.” There has been no reason given for this. Mr. Khan has been an American citizen for more than 30 years, which makes this especially troubling. The only reasons one could see for this development is a) Mr. Khan’s Muslim faith and b) Trump’s obvious vendetta against Mr. Khan. It is likely a combination thereof, making this “review” patently illegal and in violation of Mr. Khan’s civil liberties.

Ramsay Talks, who arranged for Mr. Khan’s talk, said the following of what is happening:

“As a consequence, Mr. Khan will not be traveling to Toronto on March 7th to speak about tolerance, understanding, unity and the rule of law. Very regretfully, Ramsay Talks must cancel its luncheon with Mr. Khan. Guests will be given full refunds.”

Mr. Khan himself said of this violation of his civil liberties:

“This turn of events is not just of deep concern to me but to all my fellow Americans who cherish our freedom to travel abroad.I have not been given any reason as to why. I am grateful for your support and look forward to visiting Toronto in the near future.”

I know that Mr. Khan is a lawyer himself, but one hopes he has a great team of them to get to the bottom of this. This is beyond outrageous, and very disturbing. Hopefully, there’s a way to sue the entire Trump Administration over this disgusting abuse of power and violation of the rights of a distinguished American citizen who has sacrifice so much for this nation.
