Former Republican presidential candidate turned reluctant Trump surrogate, Dr. Ben Carson, wasn’t very helpful to the Trump campaign Wednesday morning when he went on MSNBC’s Morning Joe and said that anyone worried about Hillary Clinton’s health should also be worried about Donald Trump’s since they are both “elderly.”
“Well, you know, as a physician, physicians and scientists generally will not make a diagnosis based on something that they see from a long distance,” Carson said. “My diagnosis would be that anybody who is elderly should expose their records. And we the people should know what they are. Because it’s a very stressful job. It’s not an eight-hour-a-day job, it’s 24/7 and we need to make sure that that is taken care of.”
“I think somebody who is running for the President of the United States, particularly if they are elderly — and that would include both major candidates — should disclose their medical history,” Carson said. “And I’m not talking about from a year ago or two years ago. I’m talking about currently.”
Donald Trump seems to love to call Hillary physically unfit to be president, even though he has no actual facts to base this on. She joked about this on a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. Calling it part of his “wacky” strategy.
Donald Trump is 70 and Clinton is 68. Both are the oldest candidates to run against each other as major-party nominees.
When Carson was asked if Trump should be held to the same standard as Clinton, he said, “Absolutely. Without question.”
