Trump Has Been Screaming About Bernie All Week, And Bernie Just Shut Him Up With One Simple Tweet

For the past week, Donald Trump has done little else than smear Bernie Sanders.

Having seemingly dropped his entire campaign in order to endlessly tweet vitriol, the Republican nominee has accused Sanders of being “weak” for not joining with Trump’s campaign to defeat Hillary Clinton. Trump’s attacks were an assortment of nonsense meant to – unsuccessfully – turn Sanders fans away from the Democratic Party.

On the first night of the Democratic National Convention, Sanders delivered a showstopping speech in which he once again emphatically endorsed Clinton and urged progressives to help elect her president.

I have known Hillary Clinton for 25 years. I remember her, as you do, as a great first lady who broke precedent in terms of the role that a first lady was supposed to play as she helped lead the fight for universal health care. I served with her in the United States Senate and know her as a fierce advocate for the rights of children, for women, and for the disabled.

Hillary Clinton will make an outstanding president and I am proud to stand with her here tonight.

Needless to say, Trump was livid.

It provided Sanders the perfect opportunity to shut Trump up. Almost immediately after Trump made his predictable smear, Sanders responded with a two word shutdown sure to infuriate the thin-skinned candidate.

A funny jab considering tweeting seems to be all Trump does. It was made all the more biting considering as of this writing it has four times the number of retweets that Trump’s initial tantrum has.

It’s also a wink to Clinton’s own Trump shut down, a simple barb that quickly became the most retweeted message of the election:

Simple insults appear to be the most effective against Trump, whose narcissism prevents him from shrugging them off. Whether it’s Clinton, Sanders, or Trump’s worst nemesis, Elizabeth Warren, the way to get under Trump’s skin is make him feel like people are laughing at him. Nothing says “the country thinks you are a joke” than shutting down his childish insults with a simple request that he shut up and go away.

Well played, Sen. Sanders!
