Well, it’s official, the uneasy alliance between Presidential candidates, reality show con-man Donald Trump and evangelical Senator Ted Cruz, has ended and the political war has just begun. So you may want to grab your popcorn and settle in because things are about to get nasty along the campaign trail.
Tuesday on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Trump had harsh words to say about Ted Cruz, calling him a liar, strident, and the most hated Senator in Washington DC. Trump went on to criticize Cruz about his lack of bargaining and negotiating skills, a skill set Donald Trump covets above all else.
All of this coming on the heels of Ted Cruz’s recently released attack ad on Donald Trump. The attack ad, aptly named “New York Values”, began broadcasting in Iowa on Monday and cleverly paints Trump as a big city phony who can’t be trusted and has nothing in common with Iowa voters. The ad also trumpets Trump’s poorly chosen “How stupid are the people of Iowa?” statement, as it looks to anger people against the snake oil salesman from the big apple.
In a race as close as the one running in Iowa right now, this could be a deathblow for the seemingly untouchable Trump, who has so far been able to insult women, minorities and even the disabled with impunity. Can a man who has proudly proclaimed “I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and not lose any voters” actually suffer a political blow by insulting the intelligence of Iowa voters? With only a week before the Iowa caucus, it won’t be long before we find out.
And as these two bellicose political agitators trade barbs, the real victim of their low-brow mudslinging is not so much each other, but the whole political system that has become a joke worldwide by the sheer presence of these two top Republican contenders.
