Sean Spicer: If Coretta Scott King Was Alive Today I’d Hope She’d Support Jeff Sessions (VIDEO)

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer continues to serve in his role as President Donald Trump’s top surrogate by making the most idiotic and asinine remarks anyone could possibly dream up.

On Wednesday, Spicer told the White House press pool he hoped that if Coretta Scott King, the widow of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., were still alive today she would reconsider her original opposition and support Senator Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) to appointed the new U.S. Attorney General.

On Wednesday, Senator Elizabeth Warren was penalized and silenced by Mitch McConnell and his GOP cohorts after she tried to read a 1986 letter from Coretta Scott King which expressed her opposition to Sessions’ appointment to a federal judgeship back when he was still Alabama’s attorney general. In her eloquent letter (which was subsequently stored in the congressional archives), Mrs. King opposed his nomination because Sessions had made an attempt to “intimidate and chill the exercise of the ballot” by African American voters.

However, Spicer indicated that he thought Mrs. King would have eventually come around after getting to know the now-senator and his record on civil rights a little better.

“I would respectfully disagree with her assessment of Sen. Sessions then and now,” said Spicer. “His record on civil voting rights, I think, is outstanding.”

Spicer cavalier dismissal of Mrs. King’s initial concerns based on the assumption that she didn’t know enough about the former Alabama Attorney General’s record about him personally was the perfect example of white male patronizing of a woman of color. And yes, neo-cons, this writer pulled out the race card.

Apparently, Coretta Scott King was just a poor misinformed black lady who had now-Senator Sessions all wrong. Maybe if the senator could have taken her out to lunch and explained his record to her in simpler terms, she would be on board with his current grab for power. The real shame is that Spicer probably wasn’t trying to be purposely disrespectful or dismissive of Mrs. King’s opposition, his condescension was just a natural reaction, as thoughtless as a blink.

You see this is the way conservatives treat most women and minorities with opposing points of view.

Trump should discontinue his search for a new press secretary; he already has the one he deserves.
