Sarah Palin may not be among the revelers at the
Nuremberg Party Rally Republican National Convention, but we all knew that at some point she would weigh in on something. And so she has, attacking the man who gave her credit for his winning a seat in the United States Senate, Ted Cruz.
Cruz caused a furor on Wednesday evening when he refused to endorse GOP nominee Donald Trump during his convention speech. That was all the excuse Palin needed to come out of hibernation and go after her former ally. In a statement given to Breitbart, Palin says,
Turns out Ted Cruz’s partner, Carly Fiorina, had a more graceful exit from the political stage than he had. Cruz’s broken pledge to support the will of the people tonight was one of those career-ending ‘read my lips’ moments.
Palin is probably referring to Bush Sr.’s “read my lips, no new taxes” pledge that he made in 1988, and later broke. Some believe his reneging on that pledge cost him the 1992 election. Cruz had promised to support whoever became the eventual Republican nominee, and on Wednesday night he backed out of that pledge.
The former half-term governor goes on to say that what Cruz did was almost certainly noticed by voters. Of course, this is Sarah Palin, so she follows that thought with a strange comment about budgets and national security.
I guarantee American voters took notice and felt more unsettling confirmation as to why we don’t much like typical politicians because they campaign one way, but act out another way. That kind of political status quo has got to go because it got us into the mess we’re in with America’s bankrupt budgets and ramped up security threats.
It’s funny that Palin would say some of those things about Cruz. After all, didn’t she accept the job of governor that Alaska voters handed to her, only to hand it off to someone else a short two years later when a better opportunity came along? And no, I’m not talking about running for vice president. I’m talking about her speaking gigs, book tours and the like that have allowed her to rake in far more money than she was making as governor.
To make her point that she is really, really angry at the Texas Senator, she includes an anti-Cruz YouTube video that was originally uploaded in May, titled “Ted Clinton Campaign Ad: Road To Nowhere EXTENDED CUT (HELLO CLEVELAND!).” That video features footage of Cruz and his intended running mate Carly Fiorina over the Talking Heads’ song “Road To Nowhere.”
Isn’t it fun to watch Republicans eat their own?
