One lawmaker is defending the North Carolina law that requires everyone to use the public restroom that matches the identity on their birth certificates by declaring that in his younger days, he was enough of a pervert to pretend to be a girl just so he could get into the ladies room for a sneak peak.
Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, defended the Tar Heel State’s new anti-LGBT legislation during a radio interview last week. The laws he was standing up for include the so-called “Bathroom Bill” that prevents people from using the public restroom that matches their gender identity. The bill also prohibits cities and counties from passing anti-discrimination legislation to protect the rights of the LGBT community.
Gohmert used his own childhood as an example of why it is simply unacceptable to allow people to use the restroom that corresponds to their gender identity. He told Washington Watch host and Family Research Council President Tony Perkins that as a teen, he would have just had to take the opportunity to dress up like a girl and try to catch a glimpse of some women with their pants down.
When it comes to this current legislation where — in most of the world, in most of the religions, the major religions, you have men and you have women, and there are some abnormalities but for heaven’s sake, I was as good a kid as you can have growing up, I never drank alcohol till I was legal, never to, still, use an illegal drug, but in the seventh grade if the law had been that all I had to do was say, ‘I’m a girl,’ and I got to go into the girls’ restroom, I don’t know if I could’ve withstood the temptation just to get educated back in those days.
Gohmert then added that businesses such as PayPal are “telling states that you have to let boys into little girls’ restrooms or we’re pulling our business, it’s just the height of lunacy.”
His confession to his perverted tendencies just supports what is already blatantly obvious: Republican lawmakers are much more of a threat in public restrooms that trans people, who have never once been involved in such an incident.
