A super-PAC backing Hillary Clinton has just released a new ad skewering Donald Trump for his disgraceful mockery of a reporter’s disability.
The ad is just the first in a $20 million buy that is scheduled to run from Wednesday through the summer in the swing states of Ohio, Florida, Virginia, Nevada, Colorado, Iowa and New Hampshire.
The ad reminds voters of the disgusting display put on by the presumptive Republican nominee in November, where he made disparaging remarks about the journalist and then mimicked the reporter’s body movements by flailing and jerking his arms to mock his disability.
The ad opens with two parents discussing their daughter, who also has a disability. Lauren Glaros, an Ohio mother whose daughter, Grace, has spina bifida, said, “when I saw Donald Trump mock a disabled person, I was just shocked.” She adds that even the children in her daughter’s school know that this kind of behavior is unacceptable.
The children at Grace’s school all know never to mock her and so for an adult to mock someone with a disability is shocking.
Chris, Grace’s father, said Trump’s mockery of the reporter’s disability told him a lot about who the narcissistic billionaire really is.
When I saw Donald Trump mock somebody with a disability, it showed me his soul, it showed me his heart. And I didn’t like what I saw.
Trump’s revolting ableist behavior came after he made the claim that he saw thousands of Muslims cheering after the fall of the twin towers on 9/11. To support his claims, he pointed to an article written by Serge Kovaleski which stated that police had been investigating reports that people were celebrating the attack. When Kovaleski did not back up Trump’s bullshit assertion, the bigoted White House hopeful launched into a defensive rant and mocked the arm movements of the reporter, who has a joint disorder that makes the movement of his arms difficult.
After widespread outrage over his revolting behavior, Trump claimed that he was unaware of Kovaleski’s disability. Like most things that Trump says, this seems to be a lie. Kovaleski claims that he and Trump were on a first name basis when he was covering Trump for The New York Daily News.
This alone should be enough to convince anyone that Donald Trump has no business being allowed anywhere near the White House.
