‘Pharma Bro’ Martin Shkreli Wants To Debate Bernie Sanders On Healthcare

Every once in a while, someone comes along who is so despicable that Republicans and Democrats, and even RINOs and DINOs can come together in complete hatred.

That man is the founder of Turing Pharmaceuticals, Martin Shkreli (AKA the man even the Dalai Lama would punch) and in September, he raised the price of Daraprim — a medication used for HIV, AIDS and patients with compromised immune systems — by over 5,000 percent. It used to cost $13.50, then he raised it to a shocking $750 per tablet. By everyone from the internet to the mainstream media, he agreed to lower the price, but not back down to its original price, and he still hasn’t done it.

One of his critics was Bernie Sanders, who, along with Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) contacted the CEO wanting financial information. Shkreli had claimed that he wouldn’t profit without such a huge increase, and Sanders wanted proof. Instead of abiding and handing over the records, Shkreli went on the defensive.

The two lawmakers later said in a statement that, after promising to lower the price of the drug in response to the public backlash, Shkreli “hired an army of new Washington lobbyists and lawyers to stem the massive fallout from his actions and to stymie congressional oversight.”

Shkreli fired back saying Sanders “should be ashamed” for attacking the industry, and later rejecting allegations that he raised the price of Daraprim out of greed.

“I don’t even own a car,” he wrote. “I don’t even have a driver’s license. Our company is not profitable. My salary is $0. I give millions to charity.”

Since Turig is his new company, his salary is not yet available, but last year, he made over $8 million at his previous company — a company, that is suing him.

Then, Shkreli’s went on the offense with Sanders, saying that Sanders doesn’t understand healthcare and he challenged to Senator and presidential candidate to a debate. Screen Shot 2015-10-12 at 8.05.09 PM

I would honestly pay to see that debate. As for whether Sanders understands healthcare, he understands that people of all economic positions need healthcare. Shkreli doesn’t even offer healthcare unless people are almost as wealthy as him.
