Muslim-American Soldiers Serving Overseas Have Some Words For Trump

Donald Trump is really running out of groups of people and individuals to alienate, we may have to start inventing new groups of people. His horribly impolitic desire to ban all Muslims from entering America has been met with disgust by Republican and Democratic presidential contenders, Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan, the RNC, and the Pentagon. Trump even managed to offend Dick Cheney, which is a pretty hard thing to do. After all, the man only stays alive by eating baby fetuses and drinking the blood of Iraqis. But really, Trump is not doing himself any favors.

One overlooked, but VERY important, group that would be affected by Trump’s plans to ban all Muslims from entering the U.S. are the men and women serving in the military, both of whom are stationed abroad and who happen to be Muslim. And let’s just say that prospect isn’t quite inspiring members of the military to be first in line to buy “Make American Great Again” hats.

Trump does know that being president doesn’t just mean you get to always be on TV,  but you’re also   commander in chief of the armed forces? Also, let’s not forget that Donald Trump had the opportunity to fight for his country in Vietnam, but he chose to stay home.

I think what Donald Trump said is completely un-American,” Abdi Akgun, a staff sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, told The Daily Beast. “It’s completely outrageous. There are a lot of Muslims in this country who have pledged to be an American, that are paying their taxes, and are law-abiding citizens. And for Donald to make statements that are bigoted in nature is … not what being an American is about.

Akgun, who served in Iraq in the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, was not very happy about the possibility of having to serve under Donald Trump.

Now meet Mohammed Shaker, a Rand-Paul-supporting Young Republican,  who was deployed to Iraq as an Army medic with the 82nd Airborne. He’s also not very fond of Trump’s remarks.

If we’re being completely honest, I have no idea what Donald Trump is doing or why, Shaker said. It just doesn’t make sense to me … His policies are very dangerous. One of the worst things we can do, after any kind of tragic event … is to limit people’s freedoms.

On the prospect of bad combover guy being president, Shaker said the following:

It is very scary thing, he told The Daily Beast. There always will be someone running saying stuff like this … There’s always going to be one sort of authoritarian candidate … Hopefully he doesn’t get to implement any of that stuff.

Finally, Ayyib M. Rashid,  a Muslim-American who dropped out of college at the age of 19 to join the Marines, said Trump is “hijacking America from Americans.”

Having an honest debate on radical Islam and its causes is fine and necessary, but outright impugning each and every Muslim is so bad that it needs its own warning label.
