The New York Times recently wrote about the impending death of the Benghazi Committee, $7 million paid for what appears to amount to nothing more than an over-financing of the inept buffoon Trey Gowdy’s 15 minutes of fame. Even if the GOP had actually set out to make Hillary Clinton look good, they couldn’t have done a better job of showcasing her grace under pressure.
I have to admit, this says it really well:
But things have not gone well for Mr. Gowdy, who has run the investigation with the dexterity and grace of a blindfolded toddler swinging at a piñata. Having pored over reams of documents, grilled Mrs. Clinton in an 11-hour session in October and hauled in more than 100 people for interviews, the Republicans seem to have come up with nothing.
Running out of exorbitantly expensive wild goose chases, like using considerable federal resources and funds in a last-minute flurry of activity trying to find “John From Iowa,” (a caller to a conservative radio show that claimed to have been a drone operator, and doesn’t seem to exist) seems to have finally forced the committee to close. A final report showing that Gowdy’s failed Benghazi committee, a mismanaged circus of a witch hunt crossed with epic governmental misuse of funds, has found precisely dick is expected shortly.

The government did fail to provide an adequate response, but no, there is no indication in any way that Clinton was implicit in any form of cover-up or gross negligence. Just like the 9 reports from 7 committees (which taxpayers also paid for) that had already laid the blame squarely on the federal government for failing to provide adequate security for the ambassador to Benghazi, Lybia, and the other 3 victims.
The committee has literally resorted to investigating random “intriguing” Facebook posts, after failing to produce any evidence of wrongdoing by Hillary Clinton based on facts, and dragged out so long that is has become one of the most ridiculous examples of GOP insanity in recent memory.
According to the NYT:
The Benghazi committee, which was set up in May 2014, has been operational for longer than the 9/11 Commission was. It has dragged on longer than congressional investigations into the attack on Pearl Harbor, the assassination of President Kennedy, Watergate, the Iran-contra scandal, the 1983 bombing that killed 241 American service members in Beirut and the response to Hurricane Katrina.
It has become completely apparent that this committee was never about justice, nor even about the loss of 4 lives among thousands: in fact, the GOP’s actual aim was revealed by members of their own committee. Their only aim was to damage Hillary Clinton’s chances to be President.
Poor Gowdy, the hallmark of his career will be a failed attempt to railroad a future political opponent with a tin-foil-hat-level conspiracy.
