GOP Senator Pulls NO PUNCHES On Trump’s Bromance With Putin: It ‘Unnerves Me To My Core’

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is no fan of Donald Trump. He called Trump’s ugly campaign an exercise in “race-baiting,” “xenophobia,” and “religious bigotry.” If you thought those comments were harsh, though, they are nothing compared to what Graham, who spent 33 years in the U.S. Air Force and knows a thing or two about world affairs, had to say regarding Trump’s continued praise of Russian President Vladimir Putin. While many Republicans are visibly uncomfortable with Trump’s remarks, and others flat-out refuse to comment, Graham has had very strong words against Trump regarding his seeming love affair with the Russian autocrat. Graham said:

“Vladimir Putin is a thug, a dictator, an autocratic ruler who has his opposition killed in the streets in Russia. If you are running to be leader of the free world and you find admiration for Putin, well, then, you’re losing me.”

Graham went on to tell Capitol Hill reporters that Trump’s admiration for Putin “unnerves me to my core.” The Senator also rebuked Trump’s claims that Putin is a better leader than President Obama, saying:

“As to President Obama’s policies regarding Putin, I think he’s been weak, I think he’s been indecisive, I think Putin’s walked all over him but no, I’m not gonna say that Putin’s a better leader than the Democratic elected president of the United States, even though I have differences with him.”

These latest condemnations come on the heels of NBC’s Commander-in-Chief forum, in which both major party nominees fielded questions on the military, national security, and veterans’ issues. Graham also tweeted that Trump seemed incompetent on the issues being addressed during the forum:

Lindsey Graham has said that he will vote for neither Trump nor Democratic Nominee Hillary Clinton this November. The thing is, though, while one would never expect someone as far to the right as Senator Graham to vote for a Democrat, he is doing something that nobody at the top leadership in his party has the courage to do: putting country before party. Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, Reince Priebus, and all the rest KNOW that Donald Trump is incompetent, ignorant, and in no way fit for office. They are more worried about their own political skins than doing what is best for the nation they claim to love. Shame on them. I never thought I’d live to say this, but they need to take a leaf out of Lindsey Graham’s book on this one.
