GOP Proves They’re Stuck In The 19th Century On Women’s Issues (VIDEO)

Republicans never miss a chance to lie and pander to their base of fanatics about abortion.

It’s so strange that 42 years after the Roe vs. Wade ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court we’re still having discussions on making abortion illegal, and that despite the Hyde Amendment making it illegal to spend federal dollars on abortion, Republicans are still trying to strip funding from the #1 women’s health clinic, Planned Parenthood (PP).

What’s more is the fact that these GOP politicians, these educated men (aside from Gov. Scott Walker) don’t seem to understand the concepts of bodily autonomy and safety for women that ultimately led to the decision to make abortion legal and safe. No matter what happens to the law in the future abortion will never go away — even if $500 million is stripped from the federal budget. Limiting access to abortion will just force women to take dangerous, extreme measures to eliminate their pregnancies without a doctor. In an advanced, successful nation such as ours, that’s utterly despicable.

Women’s lives are truly hanging in the balance with the result of the 2016 election.

In the first Republican debate on Fox News, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee went so far as to suggest women and their doctors should be tried for homicide and wants to pass a “Personhood” Amendment giving fetuses full Constitutional rights, while stripping away the mother’s rights to make decisions for her life. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker said he wouldn’t even allow women abort their pregnancies if their lives were at stake! This is all completely backwards. Former Florida Governor Jeb! and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie bragged about stripping state funding for PP.

Undoubtedly, if any of the Republicans were to win the presidency they would stack the opening seats on the Supreme Court with equally fanatical judges to try to tease a new ruling from the court regarding a fetus’ rights.

In the second Republican debate, the candidates did not mince words. They want Planned Parenthood defunded and destroyed. If the budget won’t strip $500 million in funding, Texas Senator Ted Cruz will shut down the government — again. The last time he led a government shut down he was trying to stand in the way of Americans gaining access to health care. Because he’s a stand up guy, or something.

But, what’s really freaking bonkers about this is that stripping away funding from PP will eliminate funds that go, not towards abortion, but wellness exams, cancer screenings, family planning, contraceptives and STD screening for low-income men and women. Eliminating funding from the budget wouldn’t stop a single abortion; they’re playing politics with real lives. In an effort to “punish the women’s health clinic, they’ll be punishing a bunch of women who rely on PP’s inexpensive and easily accessible services.

CNN’s Dana Bash asked the candidates if defunding PP would be worth a government shutdown, here are their responses:

Ohio Governor John Kasich responded by saying that PP could be defunded without a government shutdown, saying:

Well, I agree that we should defund Planned Parenthood. I don’t know many people in America who don’t think that we should, and in my state, we’re trying to figure out how to get it done, because we are threatened with the federal government taking all of our Medicaid money away.

That’s funny, because a recent poll released by CNN/ORC said 70 percent of Americans do not want PP defunded, so apparently Gov. Kasich is catering to a minority population of about 22 percent of the country.

Defending his threat to shut the government down over PP spending, Sen. Cruz said:

…I’m proud to stand for life. These Planned Parenthood videos are horrifying. I would encourage every American to watch the videos. See — seeing your Planned Parenthood officials callously, heartlessly bartering and selling the body parts of human beings, and then ask yourself, ‘are these my values?’

These are horrifying. On these videos, Planned Parenthood also essentially confesses to multiple felonies. It is a felony with ten years’ jail term to sell the body parts of unborn children for profit. That’s what these videos show Planned Parenthood doing.

Absolutely we shouldn’t be sending $500 million of taxpayer money to funding an ongoing criminal enterprise, and I’ll tell you, the fact that Republican leadership in both houses has begun this discussion by preemptively surrendering to Barack Obama and saying, ‘we’ll give in because Obama threatens a veto.’

First, Cruz wants Americans to watch heavily-edited, misleading videos to form their opinions on abortion. Second, no felonies were committed. None. It’s been legal for a long time to donate fetal tissue for the purposes of research since the 80’s. Dr. Ben Carson even experimented with fetal tissue. And as for the prices given, those weren’t sales prices, they were collection fees. PP is a non-profit organization. Obviously, Cruz just wants to whip people into a frenzy over the videos.

Make no mistake, Cruz would spend another trillion dollars sending people’s babies off to fight another endless war in the Middle East, but he is willing to punish low-income women for perceived crimes by PP? Shameful.

Gov. Chris Christie then seizes his chance to brag about the eight times he has vetoed funding for PP in his state’s budget, but really laid on the drama, saying:

Let’s ask Hillary Clinton. She believes in the systematic murder of children in the womb to preserve their body parts…in a way that maximizes their value for sale for profit. It is disgusting, and the American people need to hear it…we shouldn’t be fighting with each other. She’s the real opponent, she’s the real problem.

Needing a female voice on the issue, the question then went to Carly Fiorina, who made a weird case for defunding PP, like the good gender traitor she is, saying:

I would like to link these two issues, both of which are incredibly important, Iran and Planned Parenthood.

As you can imagine, it spirals downward from there:

One has something to do with the defense of the security of this nation. The other has something to do with the defense of the character of this nation. You have not heard a plan about Iran from any politician up here, here is my plan. On day one in the Oval Office, I will make two phone calls, the first to my good friend to Bibi Netanyahu to reassure him we will stand with the state of Israel.

As regards Planned Parenthood, anyone who has watched this videotape, I dare Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama to watch these tapes. Watch a fully formed fetus on the table, it’s heart beating, it’s legs kicking while someone says we have to keep it alive to harvest its brain.

This is probably an important time to remind the anti-choice crowd that coat hanger abortion isn’t very pretty either.

Jeb! was then asked about his stance on funding women’s health care, saying he was the “most pro-life governor on this stage” bragging a second time about the time he defunded PP in Florida.

Donald Trump said his statements would haunt the ex-Florida governor the rest of the election and added:

I will take care of women. I respect women. I will take care of women.

He owns many of them. That’s all he had to say on the issue of women’s health care funding. Three tiny sentences and then he piggy-backed on Fiorina’s Iran statements and then devolved into talking about North Korea.

But it’s absolute proof that the Republicans are bringing the nukes out on the issue of abortion thanks to the videos released by an anti-choice group, and their backwards, misogynistic views on PP might be their undoing in yet another election.
