Fox News is generally a GOP-friendly media outfit. In fact, many would usually even go so far as to call it the media arm of the Republican Party. However, all of that may be changing in the age of Trump. On Friday, Donald Trump’s White House did the unthinkable, and actually banned certain media outlets from an informal press gaggle in Press Secretary Sean Spicer’s office. This all comes after a crazy speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), in which Trump once again called the press the “enemy,” and attacked CNN and other mainstream outlets as “fake news,” especially when it comes to the story circulating that alleges that Trump’s Chief of Staff Reince Priebus tried to use the FBI to kill a story regarding Trump’s ties to the Kremlin.
Well, Fox host Shep Smith has apparently had enough. In a scathing on-air tirade, Smith took Trump down, peg by peg:
“Fake news refers to stories that are created by entities pretending to be news organizations solely to draw clicks and views that are solely based on nothing of substance. In short, fake news is made-up nonsense delivered for financial gain. CNN’s reporting was not fake news.”
This comes after Smith said that the Trump White House had “hand-picked outlets to cover the briefing,” and had “frozen out media organizations that president Trump has blasted as ‘fake news.'”
But Smith wasn’t done there. He also passionately defended a hallmark of good journalism – anonymous sourcing. Hopefully, Smith and other Fox hosts will realize how dangerous what Trump and this administration is doing, and continue to stand in solidarity with their fellow journalists and investigate these imbeciles squatting in our White House until they are run out of town.
