Andrew Alemao is one of the newest progressive heroes in America. His act of valor was to hurl tomatoes at Donald Trump during a speech in Iowa. Yeah, everyone wishes they thought of it before he did, right? Alemao was arrested and charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct, which could net him up to 30 days in prison.
Talk about taking one for the team. Alemao did a great service to the nation, and it has not gone unnoticed. Just look at the responses to his arrest on Twitter.
Word has gotten out about who it was, along with his mug shot, and what the story of the situation is. It didn’t take long until all facets of American society started honoring Andrew by officially “adopting” him as a member of their particular race or ethnicity. Twitter started going crazy with claims, forcing people to get in line in order to have him as an honorary member of their people.
Some screenshots of the amazing responses of support are below:
I think the best one is the hamburger helper reference.
There were other protesters at the rally on the day of the ‘Tomatoing of Trump’, but Andrew was the only one to get arrested. Arguably, it was probably worth it. It’s unlikely he will actually do a month in jail, but even a couple days has to be a fair exchange for the love he is getting online by so many. The varied and supportive responses are reassuring that despite Trump’s strange appeal, many in the country understand what he is all about and how bad he is for our political process. He has practically ensured, in a single-handed way, that the Republican party will be a guaranteed loser in 2016, so we could at least be thankful for that peace of mind.
