In just three minutes on Friday night’s Real Time with Bill Maher former CIA Director Michael Hayden crushed Donald Trump’s entire foreign policy plan. We’ve all talked about how unrealistic Trump’s dream of building a “great” and “glorious” wall on the US/Mexico border is. We’ve made fun of Ted Cruz for not knowing what carpeting bombing actually is. But the reality check Hayden laid down should make everyone sit up and listen to what the GOP could do to destroy U.S. international relations.
“I would be incredibly concerned if a President Trump governed in a way that was consistent with the language that candidate Trump expressed during the campaign,” Hayden began.
When hew as asked to specify on which “language,” Hayden said Trump’s comments on “waterboarding and a whole lot more — because they deserve it” not to mention the idea of killing the terrorists’ families. “If he were to order that once in government, the American armed forces would refuse to act,” Hayden continued. “That would be in violation of all international laws of armed combat.”
Jonathan Turley, a constitutional law expert at George Washington University told the Washington Post, “This would not only violate international law, but do so by embracing open discrimination against one religion. It would make the United States a virtual pariah among nations.”
As much as the Tea Party might hate it, there is an advantage to electing someone to the Office of the President that has experience in government. Often times they are familiar with the laws that are in place both nationally and internationally so they can ensure we aren’t doing anything wrong.
We have treaties, all sorts of relationships with other countries,” Washington D.C. immigration lawyer Palma Yanni explained. “I’m sure it would violate innumerable treaties if we suddenly started banning citizens of NATO countries, of Southeast Asian countries.
Donald Trump doesn’t look strong on terrorism or like a powerful leader when he makes these statements, he looks like a fool who doesn’t know the first thing about how the world works. His policies would put both the United States and our troops in a more dangerous position.[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pC7-RMhfSos]
