It’s like it’s “what the hell” week over at Cruz Campaign HQ, where every day brings with it a new opportunity to say something even more absurd.
At a gathering of supporters in a coffee shop in Charles City, Iowa on Friday, someone in the crowd asked, as president, how Cruz would hold people accountable for the attack in Benghazi.
“In my house, if my daughter, Catherine, the five-year-old, says something that she knows to be false, she gets a spanking,” Cruz told the group. “Well, in America, the voters have a way of administering a spanking.”
“There will be accountability for Benghazi,” Cruz amazingly continued. “We will answer the questions of who did what and why, and anyone that did wrong will be held accountable.”
There are a lot of things going on in a very simple statement here that show more about Ted Cruz’s character. First of all, a five-year-old doesn’t understand what lying is. They’re five years old, they don’t understand anything. That’s why you have to take time out of your busy political schedule to parent. To sit your kid down and explain right and wrong and what’s cool and what’s not cool and why. This takes years, and it’s not something that adult politicians seem to grasp. So beating a five-year-old disgusts me. If Ted Cruz wants to hit someone there are some great clubs in Washington, DC where he can get rock jollies.
America doesn’t need an angry father who only pops in to beat people into doing what they want. We had that president seven years ago and it didn’t go so well.
Secondly, I’m disgusted that a male politician would ever think it would be appropriate to tell voters to “spank” Hillary Clinton or any other female politician for that matter. Even as a metaphor it is disturbing. Violence against women and children is not ok. Ever. Not even as a joke.
Perhaps Cruz could keep the spanking for those “50 Shades of Grey” watch parties with his wife, because nobody wants to picture that.
