Cruz Says 10-Year-Old Protester Should Be Spanked As Crowd Roars (VIDEO)

The debate about whether or not people should spank their children as a form of punishment has been raging for years and now Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz is once again advocating it.

On Sunday evening, a ten-year-old boy heckled Cruz during his rally in La Porte, Indiana. The delusional GOP candidate called out the child, saying,“All right, apparently there’s a young man who’s having some problems.” In response, the kid screamed “You suck!” at him.

Instead of ignoring the child, the senator proved once again why people hate him so much:

Thank you, son,” he said.”You know one of the things that hopefully someone has told you, is that children should actually speak with respect. Imagine what a different world it would be if someone told Donald Trump that years ago. You know, in my household, when a child behaves that way, they get a spanking.

When Cruz said the kid deserved to be hit, his supporters went wild — proving that they are as stupid as he is. This isn’t even the first time the Republican has said he disciplines his kids by striking them. In January, he told a crowd at a coffee shop in Charles City, Iowa that Hillary Clinton deserves a spanking because that’s how he handles his 5-year-old when she lies:

Was Secretary Clinton awake or asleep when four Americans were being murdered? We don’t know to this day. We do know Hillary told her daughter Chelsea, ‘Well gosh, I knew it was a terrorist attack,’ while we were out telling the American people it wasn’t. You know, I’ll tell you, in my house, if my daughter Catherine, the 5-year-old, says something she knows to be false, she gets a spanking.

That’s right, he bragged about putting his hands on a FIVE-year-old.

As I said, the argument about corporal punishment is an old one. I, personally, don’t believe that hitting our children corrects their behavior and prefer to punish my son by taking things away from him or, you know, speaking to him. My kid is eleven and has straight A’s and very few disciplinary problems. Furthermore, child development experts agree that spanking children, as Ted Cruz likes to promote, actually has a negative effect on them.

Elizabeth Gershoff, an associate professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin, explains spanking can lead to “long-term behavioral, emotional and cognitive negatives”:

We found spanking was related to less of all the good things. And it was not significantly related to compliance. It did not make children more or less likely to comply. It doesn’t achieve what parents want: compliance and acting appropriately in the future.

In fact, some experts believe that hitting your kids teaches them to solve their conflicts with violence. Child psychologist Joan Durrant explains:

We find children who are physically punished get more aggressive over time and those who are not physically punished get less aggressive over time.

When Ted Cruz told that kid that he deserved to be spanked, he was giving really, really bad parenting advice. And as a man who is a candidate for President of the United States and a father, it would probably be a good idea if he did a little bit of research before he advocated violence.
