Hillary Clinton isn’t messing around. While the Democratic primary is far from over, the former Secretary of State is hitting GOP frontrunner Donald Trump where it hurts – in his home state of New York. Clinton, who is a former two-term senator of the state, has territory to defend, and her newest ad targeting Trump is a good place to start.
The ad, which Clinton narrates and has started hitting airways all around New York, opens up with Trump’s D.C. hotel which reads “Coming in 2016” before panning to footage of a diverse American electorate and then pivots to his violent rallies:
When some say we can solve America’s problems by building walls, banning people based on their religion and turning against each other, well, this is New York. And we know better. When we pull together, we do the biggest things in the world.
Imagine that, a candidate who showcases the best of New York, not the worst of it. It’s as if Clinton has seen first hand the strength and unity New Yorkers are accustomed to – gee, I wonder how that could be? When you’re busy representing a state in Congress instead of building hotels, you learn a thing or two.
New York’s primary is slated for April 19th and currently frontrunners Clinton and Trump, not surprisingly, lead. Although she never mentions Trump by name, it’s pretty clear the two are in a tug of war over New York values – with Clinton supporting unity and Trump supporting division. The only threat that comes for Clinton is Sanders. New York is a Democratic state, they are open-minded and they love Clinton. Trump will never win in the general election. As Clinton’s ad shows, New Yorkers are smarter than that. Let’s hope the rest of the country is as smart.
