Actor Chris Pratt, who is the highest grossing actor of 2014, starring in Guardians of the Galaxy, The Lego Movie, and now, Jurassic World — which is the number two biggest release of all times — is a Christian, which must mean he’s being discriminated against because, Christian persecution has to exist.
Chris Pratt is a Christian. He also loves guns and he posts about his love of the troops. In right-wing world, that makes him a full brethren in hate.
Pratt posts Bible verses on his Facebook page, but mostly, they’re the ones about love. Still, that’s enough for right-wing conservatives to project their politics onto Pratt, despite the fact that, other than his love for guns, he’s pretty tight-lipped about his politics.
His Christianity was especially evident when his son was born prematurely. He posted this:
‘We were scared for a long time. We prayed a lot,’ Pratt said. ‘It restored my faith in God, not that it needed to be restored, but it really redefined it. The baby was so beautiful to us, and I look back at the photos of him and it must have been jarring for other people to come in and see him, but to us he was so beautiful and perfect.’
His son was born almost three years ago and the story is a regular feature on talk show circuits, but still, Allen West posts that what Pratt said “about Christianity will probably ruin his career.”
Pratt loves guns. So much so that he has a self-described arsenal. But he also believes in gun regulation, background checks and keeping guns out of the hands of the mentally ill. It’s funny how all the conservative blogs leave that inconvenient little fact out.
Last month, Pratt made a tongue-in-cheek Facebook post where he preemptively apologizes for offending people in the future.
That was seen on the persecuted Christian right as some sort of reaction to political correctness on the left. It’s always about right and left for them. Always.
Another thing they neglect to mention about Pratt is that he doesn’t appear to share their anti-gay bigotry. He loves to tell the story of the time he shared a shower with a very generous gay photographer before his very first headshot.
Here’s the story:
In an interview with BuzzFeed, he admitted that the thought of having a threesome with Guardians of the Galaxy costars Chris Evens and Robert Downy Jr. makes him hot.
BuzzFeed: Do you know anything about the fan fiction that is online? Has anyone clued you into this subsection of the fan world?
Pratt: No, should I be scared?
BuzzFeed: No, it’s all complimentary. It’s just people that think you guys are super hot and should be hooking up with each other.
Pratt: Like, me, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr.? I’ll have to say I agree.”
Another blog post is headlined, “They Told Chris Pratt ‘Keep Jesus Off The Set,’ His Response Left Me Cheering.” Unfortunately for the writer of that post, that quote is nowhere to be found, despite the fact that it’s been shared more than 22,000 times.
They also ignore that Pratt is starring in a movie about evolution, although dinosaurs are living with humans.
If anything, all the fake outrage over non-existent persecution of Chris Pratt proves that Hollywood is a lot more accepting of diversity than it’s given credit for. There are plenty of successful conservatives in Hollywood, but Hollywood, like most of corporate America, doesn’t like to deal with the public relations nightmares of bigotry and hate.
