Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi: GOP Reopening Pointless, Money-Wasting Investigation AGAIN

Republicans have had a busy first day since the GOP takeover of Congress. It wasn’t enough to attack Social Security. They are now re-opening the money-wasting investigation on Benghazi. reports that on their very first day back, the GOP controlled house was able to re-authorize the House Select Committee on Benghazi on Tuesday, without even an up-or-down vote to debate the panel. The measure was included in a new rules package which passed 234-172.

Despite a Nov. 2014 report from the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence clearing the Obama administration of any wrong doing, Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), who has been critical of the Sept. 2012 attack, just won’t let this one go — even if it costs taxpayers another $1.5 million.

So far, House Republicans have not even set up a budget or deadline. This has drawn criticism from Democratic members of Congress, who stand by the seven formal investigations that were already completed and found no wrongdoing by the Obama administration.

A statement was released to Yahoo News by the five Democrat members of the committee — Rep. Tammy Duckworth of IL, Rep. Elijah Cummings of MD, Rep. Linda Sanchez of CA, Rep. Adam Smith of WA, and Rep. Adam Schiff of CA:

We are disappointed that the Speaker incorporated the reauthorization of the Select Committee on Benghazi into the must-pass rules package, which sets no limit on the Committee’s budget or time frame. After eight months and more than a million taxpayer dollars spent, it remains unclear what new questions the Select Committee seeks to answer. Since our members were denied the ability to meaningfully debate or amend the resolution, we now look to the Committee to quickly adopt rules that ensure that our Democratic members are able to participate fully in the investigation.

Republicans are giving American voters a taste of what the the 114th Congress will be all about: wasting time and money on their personal vendettas and pointless agenda. From measures to gut Social Security, to investigating an issue where no wrong doing was found, it’s very clear that they aren’t looking out for the citizens of this nation.
