White House Ethics Chief Walter Shaub shocked everyone recently when he announced he would be stepping down from his position as the head of the Office of Government Ethics – especially when he told America why. Stating that he felt ineffective working in Donald Trump’s administration, Shaub signaled the country to a massive ethics crisis that is taking place thanks to the country’s corrupt POTUS. What he has just said in an interview with the New York Times is just as depressing.
In this recent interview, Shaub tore into Trump for destroying America’s reputation and turning what was once a well-respected country into a “laughingstock.”
In the interview, Shaub said:
“It’s hard for the United States to pursue international anticorruption and ethics initiatives when we’re not even keeping our own side of the street clean. It affects our credibility,” Mr. Shaub said in a two-hour interview this past weekend — a weekend Mr. Trump let the world know he was spending at a family-owned golf club that was being paid to host the U.S. Women’s Open tournament. “I think we are pretty close to a laughingstock at this point.”
America knows that it has been turned into a joke by Trump, but to hear a federal ethics chief say it stings so much more.
To have Shaub saying this about America’s president is shocking and shows just how much Trump is creating an ethical crisis in our country. The way he has used his presidency to promote the Trump brand, his business interests, and his personal gain is disgraceful at best. What Trump is doing is setting a terrifying precedent for future leaders of the free world to be just as corrupt. Trump never cared about the American people or leading the country – he only cared about elevating himself and his entitled family.
