President Donald Trump visited the southern border of California on Tuesday and while criticizing officials in the state, said that Mexicans were like “professional mountain climbers.”
When MSNBC Host Chris Mattews heard Trump make the comment, he just shook his head in shame before going to commercial break. Other networks also ran Trump’s comments live on their networks.
While Trump was looking over a variety of prototypes, he said that he wanted to have a “see-through” wall, and said that “getting over the top is easy,” law enforcement needs to be able to see them coming. That’s when he started to complain that Mexicans coming across the border were like “professional mountain climbers.”
Trump then said that “If you didn’t have walls over here, you wouldn’t even have a country.”
The United States must have never been a country then because the kind of wall Trump is proposing has never existed.
President Trump also took time to rip into Democratic Governor Jerry Brown and said that “he was doing a very poor job running” the state.
“The place is totally out of control,” the president said. “You have sanctuary cities where you have criminals living in the sanctuary cities. And then the mayor of Oakland goes out and notifies when ICE is going in to pick them up.”
“California’s sanctuary policies put the entire nation at risk,” said Trump. “They’re the best friend of the criminal. That’s what exactly is happening. The criminals take refuge in these sanctuary cities.”
Trump is currently trying to get Congress to stop sending California federal aid, even though the state is one of the biggest federal taxpayers.
Shortly after Trump made the statement and it was aired on television, people everywhere were outraged:
