Because he lacks even the slightest bit of maturity and can only express himself in the most childish ways, president Donald Trump is once again breaking tradition and refusing to attend this year’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on April 28.
While no one expected him to go, considering he boycotted the dinner last year and hasn’t grown up one bit since then, his plan to ruin the dinner truly shows how pathetic he is. Instead of going to the dinner, Trump is holding a rally in Michigan on the same night. The White House announced Trump’s plans by releasing this statement, which was probably written by Trump himself:
“While the fake news media will be celebrating themselves with the denizens of Washington society in the swamp that evening, President Trump will be in a completely different Washington, celebrating…with patriotic Americans.”
This statement was hardly the first awful anti-media thing to come out of the White House today — Trump also attacked the free press in a ridiculous Twitter post, whining about how “much of the media is a scam!”
This response from the Trump administration blows up the lie they told Americans last year when Trump boycotted the Correspondents’ Dinner. Even though Trump announced plans for a mega-rally in Harrisburg at the same time of the correspondents’ dinner, the White House insisted that Trump’s rally had nothing to do with his awful relationship with the media:
“The media is trying to make this about them when, respectfully, it has nothing to do with you guys. It’s about focusing on the people.”
Considering that the Trump administration has pretty much confessed that Trump’s rally is ALL about the media this time around, it’s clearly a personal attack against the “fake news.”
I think this goes without saying, but Trump’s little rally is going to blow up in his face. As Trump’s crowd numbers and rally turnouts continue to dwindle, the only thing Trump’s little boycott will accomplish is the self-inflicted humiliation of his presidency.
