Trump Bails On Republicans, Secretly Begs Democrats To Help Him Win (DETAILS)

Donald Trump has been in the White House for 200 days now and has absolutely nothing to show for it besides taking credit for the accomplishments of former President Barack Obama and a handful of humiliating failures such as his healthcare debacle.

After the GOP’s latest attempt to repeal and replace Obamacare crashed and burned, the Republican Party has basically moved on without Trump and is blatantly ignoring him. Trump, more desperate than ever for a win, has decided to ditch Republicans in Congress and has secretly turned to Democrats for help according to a report by Politico.

Politico reported that a few dozen House Democrats have been quietly asked to help Trump on tax reform so the White House doesn’t have to endure another failure as humiliating as Trumpcare. Apparently, members of the Blue Dog Coalition have already met with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, chief economic adviser Gary Cohn and top White House staff. Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has been focusing on a strictly partisan approach, perhaps unaware of what the White House is doing.

White House director of legislative affairs Marc Short said:

We’d prefer bipartisan support for the tax plan. We still think we can earn the support of [Democrats] on the tax package.”

Some Republicans have stated they would be totally on board with this. Rep. Tom Reed (R-NY) said:

I think there are a lot of practical folks in the House, Senate and the administration who are looking at health care and saying, ‘That didn’t work. Maybe we should have a backup Plan B — a coalition of Democrats and Republicans.’”

This must be extremely humiliating for Trump, as he attacked Democrats for not helping his disastrous plan to repeal and replace Obamacare – but now he’s approaching them with his tail between his legs. And while this is probably not what McConnell wants, it looks like some Republicans would actually appreciate the White House looking for help. Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) said:

I’ve heard lots of my Republican colleagues say consistently that, after the health care experience, they’d like to see us try to work bipartisan on tax reform.”

However, not everyone sees this as a good thing. Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT), one of the Democrats the GOP is targeting, is skeptical of what the White House is asking. Tester warned:

He did the same thing with health care. We offered to help and he said, ‘No, I’m going to run it down your throat.’ He’s going to do the same thing with taxes, and it’s bad public policy when you don’t bring people together to have a debate.”

It’s uncertain how this will play out, but it definitely reveals that Trump knows he and the GOP are failing and they need help.
