Top Republican: ‘The White House Is Paralyzed’ Over Russia Scandal

On Wednesday morning, Donald Trump tweeted that everything is fine. “The W.H. is functioning perfectly, focused on HealthCare, Tax Cuts/Reform & many other things,” he said. The former reality show star is leaving for Paris, where we’re sure he won’t be well received by protesters. Trump is not well liked there and he won’t be able to escape his scandals, which are plaguing his administration. Republicans know that, too.

Trump is taking his party down with him as he leaves his colleagues behind to deal a scandal bigger than Watergate.

“The White House is paralyzed,” a top Republican close to the West Wing told CNN.

“Another week lost,” an official said describing the legislative timeline for Trump and Republicans, an acknowledgment that the latest revelations with the Russia scandal complicate an already imperiled agenda.

CNN reports:

Escaping what advisers, aides, and other Republicans describe as a White House rattled by Russia bombshells, Trump will find himself here instead embraced by Gallic splendor. He accepted an invitation from the new French president, Emmanuel Macron, to be on hand for Bastille Day, the national holiday that commemorates the start of the French Revolution.

We’re pretty sure that Trump doesn’t know what Bastille Day is because if he did, he may not want to go. In 1789, the French got tired of the lavish lifestyle the King and his pretty wife were leading. A few years after storming the Bastille, King Louis XVI was beheaded.

Here in the U.S., Donald Trump Jr. has found himself at the center of the Russia scandal. Like father, like son. Apparently, Trump isn’t taking it well. According to another person who spoke with the amateur president, he views his own scandal as an effort by his enemies and the media to discredit him and his presidency.

However, in private, Trump is not happy that his son agreed to meet with the Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer, according to what a Republican source told CNN, who said that Trump believes it wasn’t a smart move — but also said that his son did nothing illegal. The alleged president, according to the source, is annoyed that the meeting is a distraction from what he views as his successful trip to Poland and Germany last week.

The White House is not “functioning perfectly” as Trump claimed. Hundreds of key executive branch positions remain vacant. White House aides reportedly feel ‘helpless’ as Don Jr’s scandal explodes.
