Donald Trump has recently been busying himself on Twitter by trashing tech giant Amazon and its founder, Jeff Bezos.
Over the last few days, Trump has ignited a one-sided war on Amazon and The Washington Post, which is also owned by Bezos. Here’s just a small sample of what’s been going down on Trump’s Twitter feed lately:
Even though the myth that Amazon is damaging the U.S. Post Office profits has been debunked several times, Trump continues to spread this fake news in order to damage Bezos’ companies, and now we know why.
According to a 2017 article in Fortune Magazine, Trump suffered a major $600 million decrease in his net worth last year — and $400 million of that was attributed to Amazon. Fortune Magazine reported:
“Trump’s real estate holdings, specifically those in New York City, have taken a big hit in the past year, as retail values are struggling in response to Amazon’s e-commerce gains.”
“A dip in New York City’s real estate market that has hit retail particularly hard. Values of several Manhattan properties, particularly those on or near Fifth Avenue, have dropped, shaving nearly $400 million off Trump’s fortune.”
This was a big hit to Trump’s ego, as he dropped from 156th on the Forbes 400 List of wealthiest Americans, down to the 248th spot. At the same time, Bezos came in second place for the second year in a row. Fortune also made a connection between Trump and Amazon’s net worth:
“Appearing on CNN, Forbes assistant managing editor Kerry Dolan leveled blame for Trump’s real estate losses on e-commerce’s domination over retail, mentioning Amazon. Dolan said that ‘retailers are suffering—even on the high end. It would appear that Amazon’s strategy of e-commerce over brick and mortar retail is winning, and that is having an effect on real estate values,’ she added.”
Amazon may be making it harder in the retail industry, but no one can ignore the fact that Trump’s vile personality and reputation has been a big factor in the decline of his brand. The Trump brand is now toxic, and America is nearly boycotting it.
Without a doubt, Trump is bitter and looking to blame anyone for his failures in order to placate his jealousy. Clearly, he has found a new target in Bezos.
