After more than a year of forced silence due to a non-disclosure agreement that would ultimately tip off authorities to the shady practices of Donald Trump and his lawyer Michael Cohen, adult film star Stephanie Clifford, AKA Stormy Daniels, is finally able to speak her mind.
She picked maybe the finest possible venue to do so on Monday, after having appeared as promised in federal court to personally face down those she accused — and who accused her of violating the agreement that ultimately held no power, since it wasn’t signed by Donald Trump.
As she was leaving Judge Kimbra Wood’s courtroom on Monday afternoon, she calmly approached the cameras gathered outside and gave a statement for the ages:
“For years, Mr. Cohen has acted like he is above the law. He has considered himself, and openly referred to himself as Mr. Trump’s ‘fixer.’ He has played by a different set of rules — or, shall we say, no rules at all. He has never thought that the ‘little man,’ or especially women, and even more, women like me, mattered. That ends now. My attorney and I are committed to making sure that everyone finds out the truth and the facts of what happened, and I give my word that we will not rest until that happens. Thank you very much.”
To imagine that a president or even his lawyer would be being addressed by name by an adult film actress at an impromptu gathering of the press — especially following a court proceeding that went the way of the woman accusing them of harassment and intimidation — was, even in the Trump era, a ridiculous notion.
And yet here we are.
Now that the judge in the case has determined that federal prosecutors will be able to review all of the evidence seized in a raid on Cohen’s office on April 9th without waiting for the president’s team to vet the documents for privilege first, Ms. Daniels’ statement seems truer than ever.
The statement was caught by ABC News cameras, and you can watch it here.
