Last summer, shortly after Donald Trump declared he would
torture us run for president on the Republican ticket, he made a declaration that he would love to have the legendary Oprah Winfrey as a running mate.
He told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos:
I think Oprah would be great. I’d love to have Oprah. I think we’d win easily, actually.
Well, flash forward to a year later, and Trump is, in fact, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, but in regards to Oprah wanting to run as his vice presidential running mate, well, she has her own opinion on that.
Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live shortly after declaring her support for Hillary Clinton, Oprah was asked by Kimmel if she would consider being Donald Trump’s running mate, especially since he seems to think she’s so “great.”
So, when pressed by Kimmel if she would take the call for the VP role, Oprah had a quick and simple response ready for just that question. She said:
I would say, ‘Donald, I’m with her.’
Which garnered uproarious applause from the Jimmy Kimmel Live audience.
Oprah made her support of Hillary clear when she said:
Regardless of your politics, it’s a seminal moment for women. What this says is, there is no ceiling, that ceiling just went boom! It says anything is possible when you can be leader of the free world.
If any woman knows anything about breaking the mold and busting through barriers, it’s Oprah Winfrey. Not only is Oprah one of the most successful women in the world, she’s one of the most successful people in the world, period. And, unlike Trump’s, her story is the true American dream.
Good on Oprah for speaking her truth regarding who’s she’s supporting, as well as shutting down any and all rumors that she would ever run as Trump’s running mate or support his campaign.
