Don’t lose faith in our system just yet. It would seem that both Democrats and Republicans don’t want Donald Trump to have the ability to just go to war any time he wants to for an indefinite amount of time. Something that should make all Americans breathe a sigh of relief.
Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) wrote an amendment that would make it so a floor debate and vote would be required before sending our troops into harm’s way.
Lee tweeted this image out, and seemed just as shocked as any of us:
“Whoa. My amdt to sunset 2001 AUMF was adopted in DOD Approps markup! GOP & Dems agree: a floor debate & vote on endless war is long overdue.”

“Good work, Barbara” indeed.
For nearly two decades, since former President George W. Bush (aka post 9/11), presidents have had the power to send our troops into harm’s way pretty much indefinitely. Well, it would like that is no longer the case. And thank goodness. Trump is a loose cannon and the last person we need with that sort of power.
Good work, Barbara.
