GOP Group Backed By Mitch McConnell Wants Kid Rock To Actually Run For Senate

Donald Trump’s surprising election win has made it theoretically feasible that just about any moron out there has a chance of rising to the top of the United States government. Lots of celebrities have joked that they might run for election in the wake of the reality star’s presidential win, including Kid Rock. Most of us with any sense at all shuddered at the thought but quickly dismissed the possibility as ridiculous. But apparently, not everyone feels that way, including a GOP group backed by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Steven Law, president of the Senate Leadership Fund, said he and his group would be “very interested” in Kid Rock running against Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., in 2018.

We’d be actually very interested in his candidacy,” Law said on Friday during an interview on C-SPAN. He then cited a recent poll that showed the musician only eight points behind Stabenow. “That’s not a bad place to start at.”

“The superficial sense of Kid Rock is that he’s an entertainer, that he’s kind of this wild redneck,” Law continued. “But the truth of the matter is that he’s done a lot in his home state philanthropically, he’s a pretty smart guy, he thinks about policy, and he’s a shrewd businessman.”

“He hasn’t stayed this long in the business that he’s been in by actually living the life that he looks like he lives when he’s on stage. So I certainly wouldn’t count him out. We’d be pretty interested in his candidacy,” Law said. He then looked straight at the camera and added, “So if you’re watching, Kid, we hope you run.”

For the record, no, this is not satire. No, this is not a joke. And since this story was reported on by the Washington Examiner, it is safe to assume that it isn’t fake news either. This is real life. Republicans are actually talking about what a great idea it would be to have Senator Kid Rock. We. Are. Doomed.
