Former Republican Senator Urges Congress To Remove Trump To Prevent Nuclear War

Donald Trump’s threat to use nuclear weapons has spurred a new wave of calls for his removal from office, including an open letter from a former Republican senator.

For eleven years, Gordon Humphrey represented the people of New Hampshire in the United States Senate.

Now, he is leading the charge to get Trump ousted from office before he destroys the world with nuclear bombs.

Earlier this week, Trump threatened the rain “fire and fury” down upon North Korea. He then bragged about America’s nuclear arsenal and suggested he will use them.

This alarmed Humphrey so much that he wrote an open letter condemning Trump’s nuclear threats and urged Congress to remove him.

“President Trump’s threat to rain down ‘fire and fury’ on North Korea is like pouring gasoline on a fire,” Humphrey wrote on Wednesday. “It’s crazy.”

Donald Trump is impaired by a seriously sick psyche. His sick mind and reckless conduct could consume the lives of millions. The threat of nuclear war is steeply on the rise.

You must not take comfort in the system of checks and balances. The president alone has the authority to launch nuclear weapons, the only restraint being the advice of senior advisers who might be present at the time of crisis, and Donald Trump has shown repeated contempt for informed and wise counsel. He is sick of mind, impetuous, arrogant, belligerent and dangerous.

Donald Trump should be relieved of the powers of the presidency at the earliest date.

Humphrey then called upon Congress to pass House Resolution 1987, which would create a commission to determine whether or not Trump is mentally fit to be president. The 25th Amendment could then be invoked to remove Trump from office before his mental instability leads to nuclear apocalypse.

“Serious crises are bearing down on us,” Humphrey continued. “We cannot leave our national security and our families’ safety in the hands of a president whose poor judgment, belligerence, vindictiveness and reckless impetuosity constitute an indictment of his mental health. Donald Trump is seriously sick. He is dangerous. As a citizen, a former U.S. Senator and 12-year member of the Armed Services Committee, I urge you to act once. This is an emergency.”

Indeed, this is an emergency. Trump has unfettered access to nuclear weapons. He could push the button tomorrow or even in the next hour and no one would be able to stop him. Trump does not have to ask Congress for permission to launch nuclear strikes. He can do it whenever he wants for whatever reason, even if it’s just because someone insulted him on Twitter.

Trump is a madman who has zero self-control. He does not listen to reason and he has been obsessed with using nuclear weapons ever since the campaign. He even refused to rule out using nuclear weapons in Europe. That’s how insane he is.

There is no turning back once Trump launches nukes. The world will see America as a threat that needs to be dealt with. And the first retaliation could come from China, whose leaders would be outraged that the United States launched a nuclear strike so near its borders. So while Trump and his supporters think that America can fire nuclear weapons with no consequences, they would be fatally wrong. The likelihood that a nuclear missile would be fired right back at us is high. And it’s a deadly risk that no country on Earth should be willing to take. Millions of Americans would likely die from such an attack.

Make no mistake, Trump is a major threat to American safety and American lives. We can’t afford to let him remain in office any longer. He needs to go.
