Former DOJ Corporate Crime Lawyer Reveals Her Reason For Quitting – Trump Looks Slimier Than Ever

When is Donald Trump ever going to grow up? Probably never – he’ll get worse, not better, as his failing presidency continues downward as his level of sheer corruption shoots skyward. His unethical and highly questionable behavior has had bad effects on other government employees, especially those who enforce ethics laws. Hui Chen quit her job as the Department of Justice’s compliance counsel last month, and has now explained exactly what made her quit.

Her reason is that the administration is conducting itself in a way that she would never tolerate from the corporations she policed as part of her job:

Trying to hold companies to standards that our current administration is not living up to was creating a cognitive dissonance that I could not overcome. To sit across the table from companies and question how committed they were to ethics and compliance felt not only hypocritical, but very much like shuffling the deck chair on the Titanic. Even as I engaged in those questioning and evaluations, on my mind were the numerous lawsuits pending against the President of the United States for everything from violations of the Constitution to conflict of interest, the ongoing investigations of potentially treasonous conducts, and the investigators and prosecutors fired for their pursuits of principles and facts. Those are conducts I would not tolerate seeing in a company, yet I worked under an administration that engaged in exactly those conduct. I wanted no more part in it.”

In other words, it was too hypocritical for her to demand certain ethics standards from the corporate world while she worked for someone who can’t even show the most basic grasp of ethics. The Trump administration is currently shaping up to be one of the most corrupt in history. Reagan was pretty damned corrupt, as were Warren G. Harding, Ulysses S. Grant and of course, our old friend Richard Nixon, and less than a year into the Trump administration, he’s already shaping up to be at least as corrupt as any of these four. Just his violations of the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution, as well as the fact that his failure to divest from his businesses and thus, is reaping millions from his office already, are evidence of that. To say nothing of the ever-growing Russia scandal.

His infantile behavior doesn’t help matters, either.

For people with a conscience, this kind of environment just doesn’t work at all when your job is enforcing ethics and you work for someone who has none.
