Disgraced General Flynn’s Family Asks Trump For Arpaio Style Pardon

The President of the United States has the power to pardon literally anyone he wants when it comes to federal crimes. Unfortunately that power currently rests with the orange buffoon currently squatting in the Oval Office, one Donald J. Trump. The first pardon handed out by Trump was to the notoriously anti-immigrant sheriff of Arizona’s Maricopa County, Joe Arpaio. This is a man who spent his time in office terrorizing the Hispanic community by racially profiling anyone with brown skin, putting them in what he called “tent cities” — meaning outdoor prisons where they lived in literal tents, completely exposed to the elements of Arizona’s harsh desert climate. Finally, after years of this unconstitutional behavior, Arpaio was convicted and was about to go to jail for defying a judge’s order to stop it with the racist policing. Instead, he continued, leading to a criminal conviction. That gives you an idea of the kind of people that Trump sees fit to pardon.

Well, it seems that Trump could be poised to pardon another criminal: His disgraced former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, who was forced to resign after just 24 days on the job because he lied to the Vice President about his contacts with foreign agents. Flynn has since pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI, and seems to be cooperating with the investigation into the potential collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government in an effort to fix the 2016 election in Trump’s favor. This investigation is, of course, being conducted by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who was George W. Bush’s FBI Director and a man seen as having impeccable credentials, integrity, and investigative skills.

Nonetheless, Flynn’s family seems to be gunning for their embattled loved one to get the Joe Arpaio treatment. His brother, Joseph Flynn, tweeted:

About time you pardoned General Flynn who has taken the biggest fall for all of you given the illegitimacy of this confessed crime in the wake of all this corruption.”

In true Trump World fashion, Joseph Flynn’s tweet was deleted after just a few minutes, but he never denied tweeting it. The General’s brother said of the matter to Newsweek:

I responded [to Trump’s complaints about the Mueller investigation]. I said it, and maybe he’s listening.”

In the meantime, Joseph Flynn is holding court over efforts to raise money for Flynn’s legal crisis and seems encouraged by the response. In an email to Newsweek, he said of the efforts:

We have seen a very big surge in support, especially after last week.”

However, he can’t have the cash from those gullible supporters drying up because the impression that they don’t need any more money is out there, so Joseph Flynn continued:

I want to be clear: The expense far outweighs the donations, most of which are small amounts that average citizens who support General Flynn…. The burden of expense of multiple investigations, which of course were not expected and no one prepares for, is financially crippling to him and his family.”

Now, no one knows if Trump will pardon Flynn or not. That will likely depend on Trump’s on legal and political vulnerabilities when it comes to doing something like that. But, everyone knows that Flynn was a Trump loyalist, and the orange one is a man who values unwavering to loyalty to him above all else. To that end, it seems we’re on course to see someone else who should likely spend the rest of his days behind bars walk away scot-free, all because we have a so-called “president” who has absolutely not respect or regard for the rule of law.

Oh, what peril this great republic is in as long as that man is in office. Get your act together, America, and elect a Congress in 2018 that will do the right thing and be a check on Trump – or better, remove him for unfitness before it is too late.
