CNN’s Jake Tapper Just Had The Best Response To Bill O’Reilly’s Nasty Comment About Him

Former disgraced Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly took to Twitter on Wednesday in an apparent attempt to praise Sean Hannity’s “ratings” while at the same time taking a subtle dig at CNN’s Jake Tapper for his “low ratings.”

It only took minutes for Tapper to respond, and judging by the amount of fanfare the two tweets both received, Tapper won by a long-shot. But, you didn’t need a ton of likes to judge who won this online battle between the two, just read Tapper’s comment:

“Low would be sexually harassing staffers and then getting fired for it — humiliated in front of the world. Now THAT would be low.”

Tapper, of course, is referring to the fact that Fox News was forced to finally let Bill O’Reilly go after workplace sexual harassment allegations plagued the network. They even stood by the top-rated host, spending more than $13 million to settle claims with more than 5 separate women over the years, that is, until more than 50 advertisers suddenly abandoned his show. That was the final straw – no advertisers means no revenue, and that was all it took.

Here was how the internet responded when Tapper fired back to Bill O’Reilly:

Now – to address O’Reilly’s “ratings” claim. He seems to be harping a classic Trumpian-like attitude, that somehow, CNN is failing in the news business, which is completely untrue. Here are the facts: CNN just had the most-watched third quarter ever in 2017, and currently ranks #2 in cable news. They even beat out MSNBC for the 14th straight quarter in all key day programs among the highly sought after 25-54 age demographic.

Per Tv Newser:

“In Total Day, CNN had its most-watched third quarter ever among total viewers and its highest 3Q delivery among adults 25-54 in 16 years (since 2001). In prime time, CNN delivered its second highest 3Q since 2008 in both total viewers and the demo (25-54). During dayside programming (9am-4pm), CNN had its best 3Q delivery since 1995 in total viewers and since 2001 among adults 25-54.

Several key CNN programs also posted their highest 3Q deliveries on record among adults 25-54, including CNN’s Erin Burnett Outfront, Anderson Cooper 360, CNN Tonight with Don Lemon, The Lead with Jake Tapper and The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer. New Day posted its second highest quarterly performance on record among both adults 25-54 and total viewers.”

While it’s true CNN still lags behind Fox News, it cut its deficit against the network to its smallest margin in more than nine years. Bill O’Reilly’s claim, then, that Tapper is “as low as you can go” is simply not true. And, Tapper got the last laugh on this one.
