Jill McCabe, the wife of fired FBI official Andrew McCabe who has been a target in Trump’s tweets, is telling her side of the story in a Washington Post op-ed, and it is impeccable.
In the past, Dr. Jill McCabe, an ER pediatrician, has been called a “loser” by President Trump who claims she was part of an underhanded scheme to help former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
Dr. McCabe wrote in a piece posted Monday night about the ”destructive lies” told by Trump that essentially turned her family’s life upside down.
“To have my personal reputation and integrity and those of my family attacked this way is beyond horrible. It feels awful every day. It keeps me up at night. I have spent countless hours trying to understand how the president and so many other can share such destructive lies about me.”
“For the past year and a half of this nightmare, I have not been free to speak out about what happened,” she penned. “Now that Andrew has been fired, I am.”
For those unaware, FBI official Andrew McCabe was fired by the Attorney General on March 16th – just two days before he could collect his full pension, a move that Trump celebrated via Twitter. The president’s tweets accused both Jill and Andrew of corruption and threatened Andrew McCabe’s job and his retirement. Dr. McCabe explains the hardships her family had to face during this period:
“It ended up costing my husband, Andrew, his job and our family a significant portion of his pension my husband had worked hard for over 21 years of federal service.”
Jill McCabe ran unsuccessfully as a Democrat for a state Senate seat in Virginia in 2015, receiving support from a PAC tied to then-Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, a long-time Clinton pal. Dr. McCabe said she was recruited to run by Democrats, with her central issue being Medicaid expansion. According to Trump’s logic, donations in any way connected to McAuliffe amounted to undue influence on the FBI’s Clinton email probe.
Dr. McCabe set her story straight:
“The subject of Hillary Clinton never came up — the story about her emails had not even broken when I was first approached by Northam,” she wrote.
“All the governor asked of me was that I support Medicaid expansion.”
In addition, Dr. McCabe made sure to ask her husband if he thought it would pose a problem for him professionally if she ran, and if it did, she wouldn’t go forward with the campaign. According to the op-ed, Andrew McCabe said he consulted FBI ethics experts, and Jill McCabe said the two took pains to “go even beyond what the rules required,” assuring that her husband did not participate in her campaign and “wouldn’t even drive” his family to campaign events. Andrew McCabe, being a long time Republican, took this very seriously because he knew the backlash he would receive for his wife.
And yet, Trump would still hold this campaign against them. Dr. McCabe ended her piece saying with a powerful message:
“Nothing can prepare you for what happens when your life is turned upside down by current events. Nothing prepares you for conversations you have to have with your teenage children. Nothing prepares you for the news crews staking out your house, your back yard, your place of business.”
It takes a very strong woman to speak up against a deranged president, and Jill McCabe did that with such class and elegance. America can see what this vile orange thug and his ignorant minions are doing here and it is purely disgusting. The McCabe family may be on the wrong side of these corrupt buffoons, but they are on the right side of history.
