And the winner is …

Trevor Noah!

Noah joined the Daily Show team in December of 2014, just 2 months before Stewart’s announcement. Before joining TDS, Noah was a successful actor, host and comedian mostly in his home nation of South Africa. He went from being a soap opera star there to doing gigs as a host of gossip and awards shows. Then, he moved into stand up comedy where he enjoyed national success and got exposed to more international audiences after touring with popular comedian Gabriel Iglesias. He became the first South African comedian to appear on the Tonight Show and The Late Show with David Letterman.

No definite date has been announced for the takeover, but it is expected to take place in late 2015 or early 2016.
