Just when you thought the GOP couldn’t get any creepier in their views on sexuality and gender, a new stomach churning Republican-proposed bill coming out of Virginia will make you recoil in absolute horror.
Earlier this week, Republican Delegate Mark Cole put forth a bill that would require schools to verify a child’s “anatomical sex” in a ridiculous attempt to make sure every student is using the bathroom that “God” intended. The bill, simply called House Bill 663, would stipulate that:
Local school boards shall develop and implement policies that require every school restroom, locker room, or shower room that is designated for use by a specific gender to solely be used by individuals whose anatomical sex matches such gender designation,
Perfect, forget those new history textbooks, schools would now have to redirect funds to bankroll the Gender Police if Republicans get their way. Or as civil rights advocate Tim Peacock put it, “in order for the legislation to work, adults would be required to inspect children’s genitals before they use the bathroom”. Peacock went on to add:
This is what the conservative movement has devolved into: forcing children to allow adults to examine their genitals out of misplaced fear that transgender kids and adults might commit a hypothetical never-before-seen act of violence or sexual aggression
The real kicker to this sad piece of legislative bigotry is that if the proposal becomes law any student found in violation will be fined 50 dollars for using the bathroom not dully assigned to them.
You would think in an age of school shootings, bullying, and budgetary cutbacks that drastically limit the quality of education our children receive, passing a bill that essentially turns bathroom monitors into pervy TSA agents would be the furthest thing from anyone’s mind. But not for Republicans who seem obsessed with controlling other people’s private parts.
