Republican Governor Paul LePage Apologizes for Racist Comments–But Not Really (VIDEO)

By now most Americans are familiar with the name Paul LePage, the hard-line Republican Governor of Maine who is well known in his state for his abrasive personality and questionable legislative tactics. Most governors serve out their term with little fanfare, and probably never gain national recognition unless they are completely bats*it crazy or immersed in multiple scandals. LePage is both!

Paul Lepage, who quickly became a Tea Party favorite by telling voters “Obama can go to hell” along the campaign trail, came under fire last week by Democrats and Republicans alike for racist statements made at a local town hall event. Minutes into a speech about Maine’s current out of control heroin problem, a problem the governor blames on out of state drug dealers and not his own archaic anti-drug policies, went on a tangent claiming:

These are guys with the name D-Money, Smoothie, Shifty, these types of guys they come from Connecticut and New York, they come up here, they sell their heroin, they go back home,

And if that wasn’t bad enough then went on to add:

Incidentally, half the time they impregnate a young white girl before they leave, which is a real sad thing because then we have another issue we have to deal with down the road.

On Friday Lepage issued a half-hearted apology. An apology that came after he blamed reporters for attacking him one minor slip up. This seems to be a the typical modus operandi of Republicans, say something awful, hateful or racist and if the public tolerates it, make it one of your talking points, if not issue a fake apology and then quickly place the blame elsewhere.
